Cairns Wedding Photography - The Wedding of Cassandra and Bertalan on 21st August 2010

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Cassandra and the girls got ready at Bert’s parents beautiful property at Redlynch. When I arrived the ladies from Cairns Wedding Make-up were just finishing off Cassandra’s make-up. The bridesmaids were good girls and all dressed and ready to go when I arrived! I took some photos of Cassandra’s gorgeous dress hanging on the door,  then her shoes, flowers and special jewellery. We then got stuck into the photo shoot. The girls helped Cass into her dress and with some quick sewing repairs she was ready in no time and looking absolutely stunning!

August the 21st was voting day for the federal election! Of course, we had to stop off at the poling booth for Cassandra to vote! Luckily there wasn’t a long line and we were straight in and out….phew!

The bridal car was a fully restored 1932 model Ford….very cool and very shiny!

I drove to the Botanic Gardens where the ceremony was being held. Bert and the boys were there mingling amongst the wedding guests. I took them aside for some quick photos before Cass and the girls arrived at 3pm.

Cassandra walked to the start of the red carpet on the arm of her Mum, Marion and was met at the carpet by her brother, who walked her the rest of the way to meet Bert. The red carpet resembled a work site with stop and go signs operated by cute little boys directing the traffic! A lovely ceremony was performed by Aphrodite Anderson and lasted around half an hour. After the ceremony Cass and Bert signed the paperwork then Aphrodite introduced them as Mr and Mrs!

We gathered all of the guests for a big group photo with the bride and groom This was followed by family and friends photos.

The Botanic Gardens is a great location for photos with lots of wonderful greenery, big trees and benches to sit on. We moved on from there back to Bert’s parents place. Bert’s Dad has restored several motorcycles and cars. He dragged 5 shiny and sparkling bikes out of the shed for the boys to sit on for photos.

From there it was a rush to continue on to the reception, via a paddock on the way for some photos before it got dark!

The reception was held at the AJ Hacket Bungee site in the rainforest at Smithfield. We did a cake cutting photo before the guests arrived, then I left the bridal party to enjoy an evening of fun and celebration.

I had a great day Cassandra and Bert, thank you for asking me to be your photographer! You are both very easy to photograph!

Below are some of my favorite images from the day. You can view Cassandra and Bert’s on-line album to see some more!

Cairns Wedding Photography - The Wedding of Sherry and Brent on 6th August 2010

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

Sherry and Brent were joined by family and friends for a lovely casual ceremony at 3.30 pm on Trinity Beach.

I arrived at Sherry and Brent’s place to do the brides preparation photos at 2.15. Sherry’s hair and make-up was all done and she was almost ready go. Kristy from Blush Hair and Make-up had done a fabulous job! First up I had to meet Jarvis. Jarvis is Sherry and Brent’s handsome 3 year old German Shepard and he would be attending the wedding as the “best-dog” in his suit! I took some photos of Jarvis before he was collected and taken down to the ceremony location. We then got on with photographing Sherry’s dress and flowers.

Sherry’s Mum helped her get dressed into her gorgeous dress. It was the ideal dress for a relaxed beach wedding and suited Sherry just perfectly. Sherry is lovely and happy and always smiling! I don’t think I even glimpsed Sherry without her sparkling smile at all during the day!

Some photos in the garden with Sherry’s Mum and Dad and brother and sister, then I headed down to the beach to meet Brent and his bestman, Rowan.

I arrived to see most of the guests milling around the ceremony location at the southern end of Trinity Beach. I gathered Brent and Rowan together for a few shots before Sherry’s arrival. Turns out I am also photographing Rowan’s wedding in October! I had not met him before Friday!

Sherry arrived with her Dad and sister Jody right on time. I met them at the top of the stairs along with Judel from Trendy Jeans who captured the day on video!

A lovely ceremony was performed by Kay Earl, with readings from Sherry’s brother and Brent’s sister. Before long it was time to do the paperwork and then Sherry and Brent were introduced as Mr and Mrs!

I took a group photo of all the guests showering Sherry and Brent with rose petals with the ocean as a back drop. This was followed by family and friends photos with Sherry and Brent, after which the guests retired to my favorite restaurant L’unico’s for pre-dinner drinks while we continued on with the bridal party photo shoot on the beach.

Brent and Sherry were easy to photograph and keen to get some good shots! So keen in fact they didn’t even bat an eye-lid when I asked them to climb across the rocks with no shoes on! The rocks were really sharp too! They did see a turtle though while I was composing a couple of my shots! So that was pretty cool!

I just love the texture of the rocks and the mess of lines on a really big old figtree I found to hang everyone out of!

We left the beach and headed over to Sherry and Brent’s place to photograph the cake, then back to the reception to make their grand entrance! The reception was held at the Blue Moon Grill. I have heard lots of good stuff about the Blue Moon Grill so I am quite sure the food was delicious!

Thank you for asking me to be your photographer and share this special day with you Sherry and Brent. I had a great day and enjoyed being part of it.

Below are some favorite images from the day. Check out Sherry and Brent’s on-line album to view more images from their wedding day.

Cairns Wedding Photography - The Wedding of Melissa & Mark on 26th July 2010

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

Melissa and Mark came to Cairns from Sydney to be married at the Sebel Cairns Hotel. A small gathering of family and friends joined them, along with their 3 boys for the ceremony on the balcony inside the Hotel at 11am.

The weather wasn’t great on the day, so the ceremony was held inside. Kay Earl conducted a lovely ceremony which included readings by both Alex and Ethan.

After the ceremony I took a group photo of everyone from the next level up balcony and then we headed over to the staircase for the family photos. The family photos were very relaxed with everyone sitting on the stairs around Melissa and Mark.

After the family photos, as the rain was coming down horizontally outside, we had a wander around the hotel for the photo shoot. The furnishings inside the Sebel are classic and make excellent backgrounds for photos. The spiral staircase has always been a favorite! I love the stripey upholstered chairs and the ornate black mirror hanging on the white wall. The Hotel forecourt is also a fab place for photos with big tall glass windows and lots of white walls!

We headed back upstairs for some family photos with Mason once he had woken up as he had slept through the ceremony and the photos afterward! Then I left Melissa and Mark to enjoy a delicious lunch with their friends and family.

Thanks for having me along to capture your special day Melissa and Mark!

Below are some of my favorite images of Melissa and Mark. Check out their on-line album to see some more pics from their wedding day.

Cairns Wedding Photography - The Wedding of Mandy and Jeremy on 16th July 2010

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Mandy and Jeremy came to Cairns from Brisbane for a small, relaxed tropical wedding with their 5 kids and close friends.

The location for their wedding was The Lakes Resort. The weather had been a bit yucky the few days before, but on the day it turned out to be quite nice. A little overcast but not raining!

The ceremony was performed by Elaine Charlton and held at 3.30pm on the sandy shore of one of the many pools around the Resort.

After the ceremony we did some family photos with all the kids together and individually. The boys could barely contain themselves during the photo shoot and as soon as it was finished they all charged the pool and dived in fully clothed!

With the kids kept entertained at the pool,  Mandy, Jeremy and I headed off for a wander around the Resort to take some more photos. I love the style of the resort with all the colours and textures and tropical gardens.

Below are a few of my favorites from the day. To see more images please check out Mandy and Jeremy’s on-line album.

Thank you for asking me to be your wedding photographer Mandy and Jeremy, it was my pleasure and the kids made it fun too!

Cairns Wedding Photography - The Wedding of Sophie and Ben on 10th July 2010

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Sophie and Ben were joined by family and friends at the Cairns Colonial Club Resort for their wedding on the 10th July.

Sophie and her four bridesmaids got ready in the bridal suite at the Colonial Club. When I arrived the bridesmaids were almost ready. Two of them were preparing to dress their cute little daughters in their fairy outfits! I photographed Sophie’s dress, shoes, flowers and jewellery and then we waited for the hair dresser to return and finish off Sophie’s hair. It was quite a windy day and she wanted to leave the final touches for right before the ceremony. Hair all done, the girls helped Sophie get into her dress.

Sophie looked stunning in her dress! Her hair and make-up looked fab and her big brown eyes are just gorgeous! The colour theme for the day was black and pink, my favorite colour scheme, it really stands out in a rainforest or garden setting. The girls wore rock and roll style full skirted black dresses and their flowers were hot pink gerberas. We quickly finished off the photos and I headed over to the ceremony to take some shots of Ben and the boys awaiting Sophie’s arrival.

Sophie and the girls were not far behind me and I met them in the foyer of the conference centre.

The ceremony was held at the Garden Gazebo in the lush tropical Gardens of the Resort. Eve Prince performed a lovely ceremony which included welcoming all of Sophie and Ben’s guests, especially mentioning by name those who had come from a long way to join them. Sophie was walked down the red carpet to her waiting groom by her Mum and Her Grandad.

The two little fairies almost stole the show!

A flower shower followed the ceremony and a group photo of all the guests with Sophie and Ben taken from the Jardines Restaurant balcony. After that I took photos of Sophie and Ben with their family and friends. The weather was a bit touch and go, so it was decided that we would take all the photos in the garden around the Resort. There are lots of options at the Colonial Club including the big ornate spiral timber staircase in the foyer.

It took around an hour to complete the photo shoot. From there I said my good-byes and left Sophie and Ben to go back to their room to freshen up before the reception.

Thank you for having me as your photographer Sophie and Ben, it was fun!

Below are some of my favorite images from the day. You can see more photos at Sophie and Ben’s on-line album.

Palm Cove wedding photography - The Wedding of Amy and Liam on 2nd July 2010

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

My first wedding back from holidays and I was ready and raring to get into it! Amy and Liam were quite casual about everything and not too stressed about this whole wedding thing! Always a good way to be!

Paradise Palms is a great place to have a wedding. You can get ready, get married and get fed all at the same place without leaving the property!

Amy and the girls got ready at the new Paradise Palms Resort. The weather was touch and go for the week before and that morning was overcast and raining. When I arrived, Amy was having the finishing touches put on her make-up and the girls were just about done with their hair. When they were done I asked the girls to help Amy put on her dress. It was a dress with a lace up back. Linda, who did the girls hair, also happens to work in the shop that Amy bought the dress from! It was decided that she was the person best qualified to do up the dress! It took Linda no time at all to whip the dress into place and we got on with taking some photos of Amy and Amy and the girls together. Linda also did a fab job on the girls hair!

With all the photos complete I left the girls and headed over to the Golf Club to meet the boys and take some photos of them awaiting Amy’s arrival. It was decided that due to the possibility of rain the ceremony would be held in the room up stairs over looking the golf course. I met Liam and the boys and rushed them outside for some photos. Shortly after Amy and her Dad, followed by her bridesmaids arrived in golf buggies!

Vivian Reid performed a lovely ceremony with readings from Liam’s Mum and sister. After the ceremony, the paperwork was completed and everyone congratulated the newly married Mr and Mrs!

I managed to direct all the guests outside to the entrance staircase for a group photo with the bride and groom. After that we moved onto the driveway for photos with family and friends.

Angie, the fabulous wedding coordinator at Paradise Palms, had organised golf buggies for the bridal party and myself and Angie’s assistant, Katey. The weather held out and we went for a photo tour around the golf course.

Katey drove us all over the golf course to all the best places! She is so helpful and nothing is too much trouble! Katey really makes my job of taking photos on the day easy!

First stop was the hole over looking the entire golf course. It’s quite a spectacular view from up there! We continued on to the magnificent stone bridge for some photos of Amy and Liam with the club house in the background, always one of my favorite photos to take at Paradise Palms.

The photo tour over, we zoomed back to the club house, said my good byes and I left Amy and Liam and their bridal party to join their guests for a an evening of celebration.

Thank you for asking me to be your wedding photographer Amy and Liam. It was a fun day and I enjoyed being part of it.

Below are a few of my favorite pics from the day. You can see more of Amy and Liam’s images at their on-line album.

Cairns Wedding Photography - The Wedding of Kellie & Rhys on 12th June 2010

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

What a wonderful day and a wonderful wedding! The whole day was full of love and happiness as well as lots of laughs and fun along the way!  These two lovely people are meant to be married!

Kellie and Rhys were married in the tropical garden of their long time friends Mark and Marty’s magnificent,  rainforest encircled home, a top a hill over looking Cairns city.

Kellie and the girls got ready at Kellie’s sisters’ lovely new home at Edmonton. Their hair and make-up was done by Blondie’s and was all but finished when I arrived. I took some photos of Kellie and the girls and Kellie’s niece and nephew in the bedroom before we moved out into the lounge room. More photos with all the girls, the kids and Kellie’s Mum and Dad. Then I headed off to meet the boys and take some photos of them awaiting Kellie’s arrival.

Mark and Marty had their place looking amazing with gardens spotlessly manicured and the puppies hidden in the bedroom! (too much excitement for them!). Two lines of flower petals neatly arranged on the ground made the aisle for Kellie to walk down. The fence had been temporarily removed and palm fronds tied to the posts. Rhys and the boys scrubbed up quite well, looking very handsome. Rhys was looking a little nervous so I jumped straight into taking a few shots to take his mind of things!

Kellie and the girls arrived shortly after and walked down the aisle to the goose bump inducing sound of a Scottish piper. Memories of my youth spent dancing the “swords” came flooding back! I resisted the urge to break out into a fling and concentrated on photographing Kellie’s arrival!

Surrounded by family and friends Kellie and Rhys were married in an emotional but lovely ceremony performed by Kay Earl.

After the ceremony everyone gathered for a flower shower followed by a couple of group photos. Then we moved onto the family photos. Evryone looks really happy and are having a great time in the family photos! I had fun taking them too! Some bridal party photos around the property, racing against the diminishing, light we then jumped into the cars to get down to the Esplanade for the photo shoot. We had a quick stop along the way at the reception venue to do the cake cutting photos.

When we arrived at the Esplanade the light was perfect! A stroll along the figtree lined walk way towards the Marina Boadwalk for some photos with the boats in the background. Then we trotted quickly over to the seawall jetty separating the marina from the bay. I love the sunset photos we got there! I think it was worth the rush to get there!

Below are some of my favorite images from the day, check out Kellie and Rhys’ on-line album to see some more.

Kellie and Rhys thank you for having me as your photographer for your wedding day. It was my pleasure and I really enjoyed being there. You guys, your bridal party and family and friends were all so happy and co-operative it made my job so easy!

Cairns Wedding Photography - The Wedding of Kia and Jamie on 5th June 2010

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

Kia and Jamie were married at the rainforest surrounded Kuranda Resort on the 5th June. I arrived early and popped in quickly to hello to Kia and the girls. Then I headed over to photograph Jamie and the boys getting ready. Jamie’s Mum is Scottish so Jamie wore a black traditional Scottish kilt, complete with polished sporen and sword in the sock!

When I arrived at the girls all their hair and make-up was complete and everyone was looking beautiful! I love it when the girls are almost ready to go when I arrive. This gives me all the time I have allowed to take the photographs I have planned! Often the hair and make-up will run late and then it turns into a race against time to take great photos in a very short space of time, not taking nearly as many as planned. Not the case with Kia and we had a great time taking lots of photos in the room and on the verandah.

The ceremony was held by the pool and conducted by Vivian Reid of Cairns Ceremonies. The ceremony was lovely and included a hand fasting ceremony. The Hand fasting ceremony is a traditional celtic wedding ritual. It involves tying of the hands together to symbolise the coming together and staying together.

At the end of the ceremony Kia and Jamie released two white fantail doves.

Family and friends gathered around Jamie and Kia for a group photo followed by family photos with the bride and groom.

Next we went for a walk around the pool and tropical gardens of the Resort to take some photos of Kia and Jamie then we all headed down to the Kuranda Railway Station and over the bridge to have a wander around the riverside park for more photos.

Below are a couple of my favorites from the day, my very favorite being the first one. Kia looks so happy and comfy, snuggling into Jamie’s shoulder! I also love the look on Kia’s face as she peaks over Jamie’s shoulder in the very last photo!

Thank you for having me as your wedding photographer Kia and Jamie, it was my pleasure! You two were a dream to photograph!

For more images you may like to check out Jamie and Kia’s on-line album.

Palm Cove wedding photography - The Wedding of Alena & Berto on the 3rd June 2010

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

Alena and Berto were actually married in a small church ceremony in Sydney on the Sunday before their Cairns “wedding”. Their Cairns “wedding” was the big family and friends celebration of the start of their new life together.

And what a celebration it was! I arrived to take photos of Alena and the girls at Angsana Resort at 10.15am. Alena looked absolutely stunning in her fitted french lace latte coloured dress. The time flew fast and before we knew it it was time to head off  for the 12 pm ceremony at the Angsana Chapel.

Berto and the boys were looking very sharp in their suits, including William, Alena and Bertos’s favorite nephew who carried the rings. Some shots of the boys all together and then to the alter to await the arrival of Berto’s beautiful bride.

Wayne Rees performed a wonderful Affirmation of Vows ceremony which included a candle lighting ceremony by both Berto and Alena’s Mums. Wayne pronounced them husband and wife and the paperwork was completed. The bridal party danced their way out of the chapel with lots of bumps and wiggles!

In front of the chapel we organised all the guests behind Berto and Alena to have a flower shower followed by a group photo. After this a really big rush to get the family photos done, as unbeknown to Alena, Berto had arranged a chopper to pick them up on the beach front! So it was my job to try to get all the photos done before it arrived! I had one ear to the sky as I took the photos, ready to stop at any minute!

Bradley from Skysafari expertly maneuvered the chopper onto the beach for a nice landing behind the chapel. Alena was taken completely unaware! Berto had arranged it all and managed to keep it a secret for months! Well done Berto!

Alena, Berto and I boarded the chopper and waved to the guests as we departed Palm Cove Beach. Bradley flew us North to Undine Cay, a lovely deserted sand cay island east of the Daintree River on the Great Barrier Reef. We were there for around an hour or so taking photos and exploring the edge of the reef. Bradley and I lifted off the Cay to take same aerial shots of Berto and Alena inside the perfect heart shape in the sand which Bradley had carefully crafted with his feet! Thanks Bradley!

Back on the Cay, we all piled back into the R44 and flew West towards the Coast. Alena was in for yet another surprise as Berto had organised for them to go horse riding at Wonga Beach! You can see that there would have been no horse riding going on in the dress Alena wore for her wedding! Berto had thought of everything and had his sister pack some riding clothes for Alena! We were met by the Ride the Beach pick up bus and driven down to the beach to meet the horses. I took some photos of Berto and Alena with the horses on the beach in their wedding gear, then left them to it! They had the entire beach to themselves and enjoyed a wonderful  and romantic sunset ride. What a way to celebrate your wedding day!

Bradley and I flew back to the Heliport near Port Douglas where I had left my car at 8.30 that morning! Grabbing a bit to eat was my first priority! The reception was to be held at the Sheraton Mirage in Port Douglas, so I made my way to there and got busy with photographing the reception venue set up. I met Berto and Alena back at the Sheraton around 6pmish where we did the mock cake cutting photos before they headed up to their room to refresh in time for the reception.

What an amazing day! Thank you for having me as your photographer Berto and Alena, it was a fun day and I had the best time!

You can see some of my favorite images from the day below (it was hard to pick my favorite!) You can view the entire album of images at Berto and Alena’s on-line album.

Stay tuned for Trash the Dress with Berto and Alena coming up soon!

Cairns Wedding Photography - The wedding of Sarah and Ashley on 22nd May 2010

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

Sarah and Ashley were married at the picturesque Great Barrier Reef Chapel at Edge Hill.

Sarah was the first bride in ages to arrive early! Only 10 minutes. Sarah and their daughter Paris, arrived in style…a 1960’s restored Buick Riviera. Very cool!

A lovely ceremony was performed by Barbie Anderson. Paris did a great job of delivering the rings very carefully and safely!

After the ceremony Sarah and Ashley joined their guests in the courtyard outside for champagne and photos!

I couldn’t resist taking some photos of Sarah and Ashley in front of the chapel before we headed down to  The Pier for some waterside shots. A half hour wander around the Esplanade and out to the Pier and we were all done in time for Sarah and Ashley to join their guests at Salt restaurant for their reception.

Thank you for having me as your photographer Sarah and Ashley! Below are some of my favs from the day. You can check out more of Sarah and Ashley’s photos at their on-line album.
