The Wedding of Kylie and Daniel 8th May 2009

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

We have had quite a bit of unusual weather for May. Friday was overcast and drizzly. Kylie and Daniel were married by Wayne Rees at the Kuranda Resort and Spa at 3 o’clock. It drizzled with rain right up until about 10 minutes before the ceremony and then miraculously it stopped!

The ceremony was moved out onto a big rock jutting out over the pool and the rain stayed away until the very moment Wayne pronounced Daniel and Kylie husband and wife! Bridal party and guests made a dash for cover where the paperwork was completed, followed by family and friends photos.

The rain dissipated again long enough for us to do some photos around the magnificent tropical pool before we headed down to the Kuranda Railway Station.

Half an hour of photos at the train station, under cover, then we headed back to the Resort for Daniel and Kylie to join their guests for the reception.

These are a couple of my favorites. You can also check out some more images from Daniel and Kylie’s wedding day at their on-line album.

Thank you for asking me to share your wedding day Daniel and Kylie….it was fun!

Trash the Dress with Jason and Paula 5th May 2009

Monday, May 11th, 2009

Jason and Paula were married on the Saturday and we met up again the following Tuesday to shoot a Trash the Dress session!

We met up early and then drove to a waterfall on the Tablelands. I helped Paula to put her dress on. It wasn’t actually in bad shape after the wedding reception!

Nothing like a bush walk in your wedding dress I always say! We took advantage of the forest surroundings and big granite boulders lining the creek for some pre-trash photos.

Then when everyone was hot and sweaty and ready to get into the creek,  Jason and Paula took the plunge! Paula was much more enthusiastic than Jason! Can’t blame him really as the water was freezing! I did get in up to my hips….I am committed to getting a great shot not matter what!

Thanks Paula and Jason it has been fun photographing the both of you!

These are a couple of my favorites. You can see some more images of the shoot at our on-line gallery.

The Wedding of Wilhelm and Masayo 4th May 2009

Friday, May 8th, 2009

Monday found me nice and close to home at Cedar Park Resort, Kuranda, photographing Wilhelm and Masayo’s wedding. Cedar Park is surrounded by World Heritage rainforest and is the perfect place for a wedding.

Friends and family came from as far a field as Japan and Germany, gathered in this lovely rainforest setting to witness their marriage. A wallaby and her joey even made an appearance in the middle of the ceremony, much to the amazement of the international visitors! Of course, us Aussies are quite used to that sort of thing! Don’t we all have wallabies in our back yards?! (Well, actually we do as Bob and I also live in the rainforest!)

The ceremony was performed by Kay Earl and translated into Japanese by Rachel.

Family photos and then a wander around this idyllic property for some more photo opportunities and then back to the timber deck to enjoy the reception with delicious food prepared by famous chefs Marcus and Christoph!

Congratulations to Wilhelm and Masayo and thank you for asking me to be your photographer! I had a great time practicing my Japanese and German language skills! (and confusing all the guests as my language skills definitely need practice!)

Below are a couple of favorites from the day.

The Wedding of Melanie and Travis 3rd May 2009

Friday, May 8th, 2009

My second wedding to photograph was on Sunday morning. I love a morning wedding!

Melanie and Travis exchanged vows at 11am, witnessed by family and friends at the Novatel Rockford at Palm Cove under the big old figtree on the Wedding deck. The ceremony was performed by Wayne Rees and as usual, enjoyable!

After the ceremony we headed down to the jetty at Palm Cove for a photo shoot. It was a little windy but as it had been threatening rain earlier in the day, the wind was quite acceptable!

You can visit Melanie and Travis’ on-line album to see their photos from the day, in the meantime below are a few of my favorites.

The Wedding of Paula and Jason 2nd May 2009

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

Wow! What a big weekend I have had!

It started with Jason and Paula’s wedding in Cairns on Saturday. I arrived at 8.30am for Paula’s preparation photos. Everything went very smoothly and we met Jason and the boys in the foyer of the Sebel at 9.30.

Jason and Paula had a brunch reception and so decided to have the bridal party photo shoot before the ceremony. We headed down to the Pier, walked along the Esplanade and past the yacht club.

It was quite overcast and threatening rain but that didn’t dampen the jovial mood. We managed to get a variety of shots and head back to the Hotel before it rained.

We arrived back with time to spare for the 11am ceremony.

The ceremony was attended by family friends from far and wide and performed by celebrant Kay Earl.

Some more photos of the guests after the ceremony then Jason and Paula headed off to enjoy a scrumptious brunch at Coco’s Restaurant followed by an after party at the Blue Sky Brewery that night. These guys know how to have a good time!

Congratulations to Paula and Jason, I am sure they will have a long, happy future full of laughs and fun!

On Tuesday I met Jason and Paula again on the Tablelands for a Trash the Dress session! More about that shortly.

Below are a couple of my favorite images from their wedding. Go to our on-line albums to see more of Paula and Jason’s images.

A flight to Cooktown

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

When I am not photographing weddings Bob and I like to fly our microlight as often as we can!

Last weekend we flew to Cooktown! An early start on Saturday morning, 4.30am, so we could take off from Atherton at first light to catch the nice smooth air at the start of the day! We had a tail wind all the way which made it a two and a half hour flight.

We stayed the night in Cooktown, then another early start to head back to Atherton. This time we were flying into a head wind! The flight home was just over 4 hours!

The scenery is always spectacular from up there, whether we are flying the coast or traversing the spectacular mountain ranges further in-land.

The first image is taken from a beach just north of Cooktown. You can see the town in the background.
